Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang 2024: Surfing’s Premier Tuberiding Event Returns with Exciting New Women’s Division

The highly anticipated Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang 2024 is officially underway, following a vibrant opening ceremony on July 29th.

The event's holding period extends from August 1st to 31st, during which time the world’s top tuberiders will be on call to compete for surfing glory. Official event forecaster, Swellnet, is watching a strong storm forming off South Africa that’s due to generate a large SW groundswell through the middle to end of next week.

And for the first time in the event’s history, a newly created Women’s division will feature four international stars up against four of Indonesia’s elite Women, two seeded female athletes and two female trials finalists.

Both the Men and Women’s main competitions will take place on one day of the best surf Padang Padang has to offer within the one month waiting period. This guarantees the ultimate conditions for these athletes on a day to remember.

The list of international surfers includes Australia’s Harry Bryant, Noa Deane, Soli Bailey and defending champion Clay Marzo, Hawaiian’s Mason Ho and Nathan Florence, Portugal’s Nic Von Rupp and American Pipeline Master Rob Machado, who has promised to bring his style and experience to the spitting barrels of Padang Padang.

This year all eyes will be on local wildcards Dylan Wilcoxen from the Mentawai and Padang Padang’s local hotshot, Manik Radita. They will be joining Indonesia’s two-time champion Mega Semadhi and 3rd place finisher in 2022 Mega Artana. The other four local surfers will be made up of the four finalists from the Trials that are set to get underway on Thursday, August 1st.

For the female athletes, two-time Pipe Master, Moana Jones Wong will be taking on the “Indonesian Pipeline” for the first time at Padang Padang. She will be joined by Australia’s Sierra Kerr and Laura Enever and 2022 finalist in the men’s division, Canada’s Erin Brooks. As for the Indonesian female athletes, local wildcards Kailani Johnson and Jasmine Studer will be in the mix as well as the two finalists from the Women’s Trials that will also takes place on August 1st.

“The Trials are really important to us,” continues Mann, “They give the locals a fair chance to compete in the best waves as well. This year’s trials are going to be one to watch, with a wave of next-generation talent taking on the old guard. Whoever proves themselves on the Men’s and Women’s sides will be ones to watch in the main event.”

The main event will be brought to you with a Live Broadcast from the channel looking directly into the barrels of Padang Padang. On hand will be an expert panel of commentators bringing you all the action and exclusive interviews with the athletes from the water in real time.
