Jacob Willcox Qualifies for the 2024 World Surf League Championship Tour.
After a break-out season on the World Surf League (WSL) Challenger Series (CS), Jacob Willcox has clinched his spot on the 2024 WSL Championship Tour (CT) to compete against the world’s best surfers, in the best locations around the globe.
With a second place finish at the Surf Sydney Pro and a top five finish in Ballito and the Gold Coast, Jacob’s consistent results throughout the season have shot him up the CS rankings - but it wasn’t until stop five of the Challenger Series the Ericeira Pro, that he officially claimed his place on the CT ‘Dream Tour’.
"It's been such a long journey, so much heart break, I've come so close and I feel like this probably wouldn't feel so good without all that. It's pretty rewarding." - Jacob Willcox
Jacob began his journey to the top as a standout junior surfer from Margaret River, Western Australia, who started beating the best in the country from an early age, and dreamed of a professional surfing career on the WSL Championship Tour. Jacob showed immediate success in surfing events and quickly evolved into one of most accomplished junior athletes in Australia. Signing with Rip Curl at the age of 11, he has moved through his junior career, received WSL CT wildcards and been on The Search to remote idyllic locations, but always maintained a dream to compete at the highest level.
Through securing wildcard positions in key WSL World Tour events, Jacob has featured in several locations around the globe, challenging the world’s best from a young age. In 2019, Willcox featured as a wildcard at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach for the second time, leaving with a 5th place finish and his best result to-date at a Championship Tour event. Since he first appeared on the CT in 2013, Jacob has won six wildcards at his home break of Margaret River, two in Peniche, Portugal and one in Karamus, Bali. It was only a matter of time until we saw Jacob officially cement his name on the tour.
The goofy footer grew up learning to perfect big wave surfing, and with the return of Cloudbreak, Fiji, to the schedule along with other challenging locations like Pipeline and Tahiti, Jacob will feel right at home. Follow Jacob’s journey as his Championship Tour career kicks off next year at the Pipeline Pro.
Congratulations Jacob, we can’t wait to see what you can do on the WSL Championship Tour in 2024!
