This year during the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, Torquay was not only infiltrated by the world’s best surfers, but also by one of the world’s best muralists.
In celebration of 50 years of surfing at Rip Curl, Mark Paul Deren, aka MadSteez, flew into town for the Rip Curl Pro waiting period. His mission? To weenify one of the biggest walls in Torquay, immortalising three World Champions through his art. The result? Well, just see for yourself.
We asked Mick Fanning, Gabriel Medina and Tyler Wright – the three (now) biggest faces in surfing – what they thought of the mural, and how it felt to be interpreted by an artist like MadSteez.
