Tyler Wright Wins Lexus Pipe Pro, Her Second Win at The Iconic Venue

Two-time World Surfing Champion Tyler Wright triumphed over last year’s World Champion and Pipe Pro winner, Caity Simmers, to claim victory at the WSL Lexus Pipe Pro. This victory makes Tyler Wright the first woman in history to win two CT events at the iconic Banzai Pipeline.
Celebrating her first event win since 2023, Tyler was visibly proud as she reflected on her road back to recovery from injury. “I’m almost a bit scared to love surfing because I’ve been injured so many times,” she shared. “[I’ve been] spending a lot of time just figuring out how to get the joy back a little bit. Last year I was injured a lot more than people thought so to come back… is so special. This is such a special win.”
After a tricky start to the waiting period for the opening event of the 2025 WSL Championship Tour, the Lexus Pipe Pro saw some amazing conditions over the weekend with big scores being thrown down across the board for the Rounds of 32 and 16.
Finals Day dealt the competitors some slower conditions to navigate, though the odd gem was still to be found. Tyler continued to showcase her expertise at Backdoor throughout the event, overcoming 2023 World Champion, Caroline Marks in the quarterfinals and tour veteran Lakey Peterson in the semis on her road to victory.
Coming up against Simmers in the final, both women took some heavy wipeouts. “It was really funky, and we both got flogged on our first waves and it kind of rattled me a little bit,” said Tyler. Managing to bank a 6 halfway through the heat, Tyler earned the win with a 7.70 heat total to Caity’s 3.94.
This victory marks Tyler’s 17th Championship Tour win, including her memorable win at the first ever women’s Pipe Pro event in 2021.
Hawaiian local, Barron Mamiya also made history as the first surfer to claim back-to-back event wins at Pipe in 19 years. After tying scores with Leo Fioravanti in the final, Mamiya won due to having the single highest scoring ride.
With Tyler firmly stamping her return to full health on this year’s Championship Tour we can’t wait to see what this year has in store for the two-time world champ.
