The Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach Returns For 2022.
The longest running event in competitive surfing returns to Bells Beach after a two year hiatus.
Rip Curl - a brand that was ‘Born at Bells’ - is looking forward to welcoming back the world’s best with stop #4 of the World Surf League Championship Tour returning to Bells Beach this April 10-20.
Continuing the legacy of crowning champions at one of the most famous surfing locations on the planet, the Championship Tour returns on the back of a new three-year deal between the WSL, Rip Curl and the Victorian Government, continuing the long-term partnership and ensuring that the next generation of elite athletes have their chance to ring the most coveted trophy on tour. The deal secures this iconic event into the future and ensures any WSL World Title hopeful navigates the notorious Bells bowl line-up on their way to becoming World Champion.
“The Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Victoria, is a massive part of our brand DNA. We’ve been a part of the event since its inception which has had a big impact on the heart of who we are,” commented Rip Curl CEO Brooke Farris.
“Our crew are excited to welcome pro surfing back to this iconic location. Seeing the world’s best continue to evolve performance surfing at our home break, and then hearing that Bell ring, is the only way we know how to spend an Easter!”
As the longest running professional surfing event on the WSL Tour and nearly six decades of hosting the best pro surfers on the planet, the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach is often considered the home of professional surfing. Since 1962, generations of surfers have migrated to Bells over the Easter period to watch as Tour legends make their way into the pristine waters. New competitors face a mixture of emotions as they descend the famous stairs, confronted with the awesome sight of swell lines pouring into Bells from the Southern Ocean, whilst grappling with realisation they’ve earned the chance to join surfing greats at the very soul of our sport.
As anyone who has been part of that history can attest, Bells Beach is a special place, and since the birth of professional surfing the Rip Curl Pro has held revered space in the history of surfing.
